Patents & Recognitions
Since its founding in the small town of Pella, Iowa in 1925, Pella has received more than 150 different product and design patents. Our history is defined by our contributions to the window and door industry. In the 1960s we introduced the first double-hung window that pivots inward so exterior glass could be cleaned from the inside. Building on our original patent for the Rolscreen, a retractable window screen, we also pioneered the Slimshade blinds — the world’s first window with blinds tucked between the glass. By the 2000s we introduced the first casement window with a fold-away handle and launched innovative product lines that are still standards with the company and the industry. Today, we are still innovative, patenting technology like easy slide operators for windows as well as multi-point locking systems for enhanced safety.
Along the way we have received our fair share of recognition. Fortune magazine has called us one of the 100 Best Companies to Work For. Fast Company has named us a World’s Most Innovative Company and one of the Best Workplaces for Innovators.

The screen expands as you open your window, letting fresh air in but keeping bugs and debris out. As you close your window, the screen tucks away out of sight. The new Integrated Rolscreen® (or Hidden Screen) is our most effective yet subtle edition yet. With the addition of our high-quality, high-transparency In-View screen material you can maximize natural light and air flow while still having an effective, easy-to-use screen. The Integrated Rolscreen has been recognized with the 2018 Best of Products Award from The Architect’s Newspaper as well as the 2019 Most Innovative Window from Window and Door Magazine.

Between-the-Glass Blinds & Shades
Pella’s Between-the-Glass Blinds & Shades blinds and shades offer all the benefits of traditional blinds and shades without any of the cleaning or potential hazards. These blinds and shades are built into the glass panes of your window and operate without a cord, which can be dangerous in the hands of a small child or pet. By being tucked between the panes of glass, these blinds and shades also do not require regular cleaning from collecting dust and other allergens.
Our blinds and shades come in a variety of colors that match your home. You can also choose motorized shades which pair with the Pella Insynctive app and allow you to control your shades from anywhere, maximizing natural light and privacy depending on the day or the occasion.
Hardware – Easy Slide Operator
Accessibility is a top priority at Pella, and nothing accomplishes that better than our Easy-Slide Operator. This hardware opens your casement and awning windows with a simple slide, as easy and frictionless as dimming your lights. The Easy-Slide Operator also features our precision venting technology, utilizing brakes that lock your window in place at your desired angle. Combining all that with a comfortable grip and unobtrusive placement for a minimalistic look, the Easy-Slide Operator is truly one of our most revolutionary innovations to date. The one-of-a-kind hardware also took home Azure Magazine’s People’s Choice AZ award and the 2021 Best in Show at the International Builders’ Show.

Window Trim Services
If you are happy with your windows but want to update the trim or replace casing in poor shape, Pella has you covered. We offer a variety of trim options including stained or painted trim as well a variety of styles that can match your home’s current crowd molding, chair rails and window grilles. Pella trim includes minimal Ranch, clean Craftsmen, classic Provincial and upscaled Colonial styles. With multiple paint booths across our operations, we can match almost any color.
Energy Efficiency
Pella is constantly trying to innovate its energy efficient windows and doors, meaning how well our products lock in heating and air conditioning and keep the harsh winter and summer temperatures out. With higher energy efficiency ratings on your windows and doors (determined by the National Fenestration Rating Council (NFRC)) it can potentially lower your utility bill. This could mean your home is more comfortable while also having less impact on the environment.
